September- Full Moon
Harvest Full Moon
The full moon will occur on Saturday, September 26, at 9:48 a.m. Pacific time. It will be aligned with the constellation Pisces (sidereal astrology). Pisces is a highly sensitive, intuitive, visionary, and emotional sign, very attuned to energies. Like fish in water, it can be difficult for us to see the boundary between ourselves and others—which is excellent for feeling our oneness with all that is, but which can lead us to take on things that do not belong to us. As it is the last sign of the zodiacal wheel, it is a sign of detachment—of letting go of what no longer serves us, what holds us back, and what keeps us tied to the past. Neptune and Saturn, close to this full moon, can make us very idealistic, mystical, and introspective, but also sad and melancholic. On the positive side, this alignment helps us bring our dreams and ideals to fruition and ground them in reality. Pisces is also associated with dreams, and we must pay attention to our dreams—which may be more intense—and to the messages they convey. And we must remember that, as the sages teach us, life is a dream just like the dreams we have at night, and that the universe is Vishnu’s great dream.
The new moon will occur in the nakshatra Uttara Bhadrapada, ruled by Ahir Budhniya, the “serpent of the depths.” It is linked to the kundalini and enables us to dive very deeply within ourselves. One of the symbols of this nakshatra is a funeral pyre, which reminds us of the transience of the material world and of our ego/personality, and of the importance of remembering our true nature. This is the constellation Pegasus, the winged horse that has experienced this death and transformation and is now taking flight.
This serpent is identified with Anantadeva, the serpent that supports Vishnu and sustains the entire universe. It reminds us that beyond apparent dualities, the Divine is in control of the situation. “Whenever dharma declines and disorder arises, then I manifest myself,” says Krishna in the Bhagavad-Gita.
Venus will be retrograde from October 3 to November 13. Retrograde Venus will lead us to revisit how we relate to others, what our emotional needs are, and our interpersonal dynamics. This is a time to make adjustments in our relationships, express what needs improvement, and articulate our deepest needs. It is said that one should not enter into a relationship or partnership during Venus retrograde. Have a wonderful full moon!
