Janury- New Moon
Powerful First New Moon of the Year
This Sunday, January 18th, at 11:52 AM PST, the first new moon of the year will be exceptional. The Sun and Moon will be in the constellation of Capricorn, along with four other planets: Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Pluto (sidereal astrology). This planetary alignment, which will continue in February and March in Aquarius and Pisces, heralds an intense and eventful start to the year, both in our personal lives and in the world at large. We may feel pressured, as if everything is moving too fast and we are struggling to keep up.
Capricorn is a cardinal earth sign that encourages us to set realistic, long-term goals and ambitions. Ruled by Saturn, this sign brings slow but steady growth, requiring us to cultivate persistence, patience, perseverance, a sense of responsibility, and the ability to face reality. This sign can also lead us to be anxious, pessimistic, overly serious, and to consider the worst-case scenarios! This new moon is an ideal time to sow the seeds of our long-term goals, especially in the professional sphere.
All these planets will be in the nakshatra (lunar constellation) Uttarashada, which means "the final victory." It is ruled by the Vishwadevas, the ten universal deities of justice, morality, and righteous action. It reminds us that justice and ethics always triumph. This constellation is also linked to Ganesha, who wrote the Vedas with his horn under the guidance of the great rishi Vyasa. It's an excellent new moon to begin a writing project!
Every year in India, on January 14th, they celebrate "Makar Sankranti," the entry of the Sun into Capricorn, which heralds the return of the Sun's northward journey for six months, a more auspicious time of year. Mercury is in Capricorn until February 2nd, Venus until February 4th, and Mars until February 22nd. All these planets are “combust”, as they transit the Sun, bringing purification and transformation. Pluto's presence adds even more intensity and depth to this transformation, bringing profound thought, loyalty, and commitment in relationships, as well as a surge of energy, willpower, courage, and fighting spirit, since Capricorn is the exaltation sign of Mars, the inner warrior. Depending on your rising sign, this planetary conjunction will influence the area of life governed by the astrological house in which it occurs, especially if you have planets in this sign.
