May - New Moon

Fertile and creative new moon

The new moon will be on Monday, May 26 at 08:01 p.m. PDT. It will be aligned with the constellation Taurus (sidereal astrology), more precisely the star Aldebaran, a red giant also known as the Eye of Taurus.

Taurus is an earth sign. It's a time for gardening, planting flowers and connecting with Mother Earth! Taurus is also the sign of the Moon's exaltation: our imagination and intuition will be at their peak, and our 3rd eye will be very open and active!  This sign is ruled by Venus, planet of love, beauty and creativity, but also of possessions, material things, finances, and it's time to think about our investments and sources of income, the way we manage our assets, especially as Mercury is also in this sign until June 5! With this constellation, we need to watch out for excessive sensuality, materialism, attachment and possessiveness!

The new moon takes place in the lunar constellation (nakshatra) called Rohini, ruled by Prajapati or Brahma, the Creator. It's a highly creative constellation associated with fertility and sensuality! Rohini is also the constellation of Krishna, the Beloved who seduces us with his divine flute that resonates deep within us! This is the time to practice the yoga of devotion (bhakti).

This new moon of the year marks Shani Jayanti, the birthday of the planet Saturn. This planet calls us to take responsibility, to develop patience, perseverance and autonomy. It can sometimes bring us the bitter events of life, but it's always to help us grow, develop equanimity and wisdom.

Between now and the next full moon, the energy will change radically with Venus and Mars transiting from a water sign to a fire sign. We'll move from a period of contemplation, introspection and emotion, to one of externalization and action.

Venus will enter Aries on June 28 after a long stay in her sign of exaltation, Pisces. We'll be moving ahead with our artistic projects and moving from the old to the new in terms of relationships with others. There will be more passion and ardor, but be careful not to go too fast!

Mars will finally leave Cancer, where it has been since October, its sign of debility where the warrior could feel helpless and powerless, to enter Leo until July 27: our energy, vivacity and fighting spirit will be back!

In Vedic astrology, the junction between the water and fire signs is called “gandantha”, meaning “karmic knot to be untied”. Mars and Venus will pass through these zones from May 30 to June 9, and we could experience a number of transitions, as well as some inner dizziness, insecurities or even “karmic knots”. It's best not to do anything important during these dates.

Happy New Moon!
