The procedure includes bathing of the eye with oil, medicated or non medicated.
Although all five elements are represented in different parts of the eye, Ayurveda recognizes that it is one of the seats of the element of fire and therefore the Pitta dosha.

Aloshak Pitta is responsible for the sight, eye luster and its maintenance of shape and colour. The size, colour, shape, luminosity ,sensitivity, thickness of eyelashes, frequency of blinking, colour of sclera, mobility, quality of ‘look” are some of the main guidelines to assess the doshic quality of the eye. As one of the five sense organs, it is the visual receptor for impressions, which has its own particular impact on the nervous system. The eye also gives immediate feedback to our reaction to the world.

Indications of this therapy include: eye tension, weak eyesight, both mechanical and perception, dryness, irritation, redness, burning in eyes. This therapy also helps to nourish the nervous system by the eyeball’s direct link to the brain and regular care helps to sooth away wrinkles. Due to the eye’s relation to the Pitta dosha (fire element) it may help release Pitta related emotions and improve perception in one's life.

It is also especially good for those who spend long hours on the computer.
