August - New Moon

New Moon of the Ancestors

The new moon will occur this Friday, August 22, at 11:06 p.m. Pacific time. It will be aligned with the constellation Leo (sidereal astrology), more precisely near the star Regulus.

In Vedic astrology, this part of Leo is called Magha and is linked to ancestors, royalty, and ancient traditions. This star invites us to remember and honor all those who came before us and the legacy they left us. It reminds us of the importance of preserving and passing on ancient traditions in these times of great change.

This year, the south node, Ketu, will be near the luminaries, reinforcing these themes of the distant past. Ancestral memories may emerge, and even memories of past lives!

It is said that this star gives the ability to travel between worlds and dimensions, and we may feel the presence of our deceased relatives more strongly, and even communicate with them! This is a good time to work on family and transgenerational karma, break unhealthy cycles, and move on.

Regulus is also the origin of the words “king” and “royal,” and Magha's symbol is a throne or crown. This constellation reminds us of the nobility of our origins, for we all come from the same eternal and all-powerful Source, the indestructible soul! “No weapon can pierce the soul, nor can fire burn it. Water cannot wet it, nor can wind dry it,” says Krishna in the Bhagavad-Gita. Happy new moon to all!
