July - New Moon

It will be the new moon on Thursday, July 24 at 12:11 p.m. PDT. It will be aligned with the constellation Cancer (sidereal astrology), a sign of imagination, intuition, sensitivity, daydreaming, but also hyperemotionality, attachment, and vulnerability.

The new moon will be particularly aligned with the lunar constellation (nakshatra) Pushya, the “star that nourishes.” This is a good time for gardening, cooking, and gathering friends and family for a feast! It is represented by a cow's udder and is linked to the Divine Mother who nourishes and carries us unconditionally. This maternal energy invites us to develop receptivity, listening, empathy, compassion, and sensitivity to others. Now is the time to bathe in her loving and reassuring energies and feel that the Divine Mother is always there for us, no matter what the circumstances! Let us remember that she is also present within us in the form of unconditional love and benevolent presence, helping us to love all parts of ourselves and forgive ourselves for our past mistakes, failures, and bad decisions. We must learn from them to avoid repeating them, and then move forward. Mercury retrograde, which accompanies this new moon and lingers in this constellation until August 10, invites us to explore and revisit these themes of our relationship with our mother, motherhood, and food!

Pushya is ruled by the deity Brihaspati, the “priest of the gods.” This is an excellent new moon for rituals, prayers, and bringing spiritual energy to a place. It is a less favorable time for making important, down-to-earth decisions because of Mercury retrograde and the fact that decisions may lack objectivity and be made on the basis of emotion. Happy new moon to all.
