March- New Moon

Spring Equinox New Moon

The new moon will occur on Wednesday, March 18, at 6:23 p.m. PDT, aligned with the constellation Pisces and Neptune, Saturn, and Venus (sidereal astrology).

Pisces is a highly intuitive, visionary, and emotional sign, very sensitive to energies. As the final constellation of the zodiacal wheel, it is a sign of detachment—of letting go of what no longer serves us, what holds us back, and what keeps us tied to the past. Like fish in water, it can be difficult for us to see the boundary between ourselves and others, which is excellent for feeling our unity with all that is, but which can lead us to take on things that do not belong to us. Neptune brings us ideals, dreams, and mystical experiences; Venus brings an ideal of unconditional love and devotion; and Saturn forces us to face reality.

The new moon will occur in the lunar house known as Uttara Bhadrapada in Vedic astrology (Pegasus). Its deity is Ahir Budniya, the dragon of the depths, Ananta, the serpent of Vishnu and his chief servant, who sustains the entire universe. He is connected to the kundalini and enables us to descend very deeply within ourselves. It is time to practice meditation and devotional yoga!

One of the symbols of this nakshatra is a funeral pyre, which reminds us of the transience of the material world and our ego/personality, and the importance of remembering our true nature. It is the constellation Pegasus, the winged horse that has undergone this death and transformation and is now taking flight.

With the arrival of the spring equinox, energy is shifting from introspection to extroversion and manifestation, as Jupiter resumes its direct motion and Mercury turns direct on March 20 at 12:33 p.m. Happy equinox to all!
